This Modern World

I remember you, when you were young
You always had that same old suit on
You had your own style, even then
When all around you were in trainers and ripped jeans
I remember your old guitar,
I tuned it for you and you called me a superstar
I went and watched you when you formed your band
You weren't that tight, but you could tell there was something there
This modern world wasn't made for you and me
We're too romantic, caught up in our dreams
Some people change to swerve their destines
They're not like you and me
I remember when your band split up
I saw you round town and you seemed kinda messed up
Kept hearing rumours you were hooked on drugs
I must admit I was worried about you
Then you came back, you were strong
You tried to prove all the cynics wrong
It's hard to quantify how well you did,
But you certainly impressed this small town kid.
Now we talk in a cheap cafe
Your hair glistening from the rain
It's been a year, but you seem much older
Weight of the world on your shoulders
Where's the passion gone from your voice?
Where's the warmth gone from your eyes?
Then I realise you're thinking the same
As you're looking at me, this world has forced us both to changed
